Short description of the content

1) Ff. 1v–2v: Yǝweddǝsǝwwa mälaʾǝkt läMaryam (“The angels are praising Mary”, Hymn to Our Lady Mary, Chaine nr. 388)

Incipit: ይዌድስዋ፡ መላእክት፡ ለማርያም፡ በውስተ፡ ውሣጤ፡ መንጦላዕት፡ ወይብልዋ፡ በሐኪ፡ ማርያም፡ ሐዳስዩ፡ ጣዕዋ።

The text is incomplete. It ends abruptly on f. 2v as follows: ወናሁ፡ ትፀንሲ፡ ወትወልዲ፡ ወልደ፡ ወትሰምዪዮ፡ ስሞ፡.

2) Ff. 3r–19v: Sälam läzǝkrä sǝmkä mǝslä sǝmä lǝʿul (“Salutation to the mention of your name with the name of the Most High”, Mälkǝʾ-hymn to St Michael, Chaine nr. 119)

Incipit: ሰላም፡ ለዝክረ፡ ስምከ፡ ምስለ፡ ስመ፡ ልዑል፡ ዘተሳተፈ። ወልደ፡ ያሬድ፡ ሄኖክ፡ በከመ፡ ጸሐፈ። ሶበ፡ እጼውዕ፡ ስመከ፡ ከሢትየ፡ አፈ።

3) Ff. 20r–30v: Bäsälamä mälʾak Gäbrǝʾel bälaʿlä Marya[m] (“By the salutation of the angel Gabriel upon Mary”, Mälkǝʾ-hymn to St Gabriel, Chaine nr. 246)

Incipit: በሰላመ፡ መልአክ፡ ገብርኤል፡ በላዕለ፡ ማርያ[ም]፡ ዘአዕረፈ። ከመ፡ እዜኑ፡ ኅዳጠ፡ ወአኮ፡ ትሩፈ። እግዚአብሔር፡ ሀበኒ፡ ሲሳየ፡ ልቡና፡ መጽሐፈ።

4) Ff. 30v–31v: Sälam läkä Mikaʾel mälʾakä adḫǝno (“Salutation to you, Michael, angel of salvation”, Mälkǝʾ-hymn to St Gabriel and St Michael, Chaine nr. 46)

Incipit: ሰላም፡ ለከ፡ ሚካኤል፡ መልአከ፡ አድኅኖ። ሰላም፡ ለከ፡ ለነዳይ፡ ዘትትዔየኖ፡ ሰላም፡ ለከ፡ ለዘሰአለከ፡ በተአምኖ።

5) Ff. 32r–34r: Sälam läkkǝmu näbiyat wäḥawaryat ṣadǝqan wäsämaʿtat (“Salutation to you, prophets, righteous apostles, and martyrs”, Mälkǝʾ-hymn to the prophets, the apostles and the martyrs, Chaine nr. 107)

Individuals mentioned in the MS

The name of the original owner has been erased on f. 19v and erased and replaced on f. 30v with that of Ḥǝnṣa Krǝstos. The latter is also mentioned in the main hand on f. 34r. He was probably a later owner of the book

Provenance unknown. The manuscript was acquired by the current owning institution before 1878, year in which it was briefly described by Ignazio Guidi
